Quick definition

A blend of individual notes that read as a single olfactory "impression" — like a chord in music.

An accord is the perfumer's term for a combination of materials that together produce a unified character. "Amber" isn't a single material — it's an accord, usually built from labdanum, benzoin, vanilla, and a few synthetic ambers. "Marine" is a manufactured accord of ozone, sea-salt-suggesting molecules, and calone. Reading a fragrance's accord list (rather than its individual note list) is often more useful for predicting how it'll smell: a fragrance described as "smoky, leather, gourmand" tells you more about its vibe than the same fragrance's 25-note ingredient list.
