Heart notes are where a fragrance does most of its work. They emerge as the top notes evaporate (typically 30 minutes to 1 hour after application) and persist for several hours. The heart is what defines the fragrance's character — "it's a rose-and-patchouli scent" or "it's an apple-and-iris scent" both refer to the heart. Common heart notes: rose, jasmine, ylang-ylang, geranium, neroli, fruity notes like apple or pineapple, and warm spices like cinnamon, cardamom, and nutmeg.
