EDP vs EDT

bolt

Quick definition

Eau de Parfum (EDP) has more concentrated fragrance oils than Eau de Toilette (EDT) — more intense, longer-lasting, usually more expensive.

Concentration is the percentage of fragrance oil dissolved in alcohol. Standard tiers from lightest to densest: Eau de Cologne (2–4%), Eau de Toilette / EDT (5–15%), Eau de Parfum / EDP (15–20%), Parfum / Extrait (20–40%+). Higher concentration generally means longer wear and stronger projection, but the smell profile can also shift — many EDPs aren't just "stronger versions" of their EDT siblings, they reformulate the heart and base notes for the higher density. The classic example: Dior Sauvage EDT vs EDP vs Elixir read as three different fragrances built from the same conceptual DNA, not one fragrance at three volumes. Trust the formulator's note pyramid for each concentration, not assumption.
