Fragrance House

bolt

Quick definition

A brand or perfumer that produces fragrances. Can be designer (Dior, Chanel), niche (Amouage, Creed), or budget (Lattafa, Armaf).

Fragrance houses split roughly into three tiers. Designer houses are owned by fashion conglomerates (Dior, Chanel, YSL, Armani, Gucci) — large marketing budgets, mass-market formulas. Niche houses operate at smaller scale with higher concentration of fragrance oils and often more unusual materials (Amouage, Creed, Maison Francis Kurkdjian, Tom Ford Private Blend, By Kilian). Budget houses (Lattafa, Armaf, Maison Alhambra, Paris Corner, Afnan) offer either original designs or clones at significantly lower price points; quality has risen dramatically since the late 2010s and now rivals designer in many cases. Most of the Fragranova catalog spans all three tiers — community ratings cut across them.
